About

As a research scientist by day, I derive my happiness from helping myself and others understand the complex world around us.

I also tutor with TutorMe.com, and have a profile (under my name, Aaron Pung) containing references and ratings of my tutoring capabilities.

Outside of my day job, I volunteer with Adopt-A-Physicist and Letters to a Pre-Scientist, helping middle school and high school students find their passion for science!

I have a Ph.D. in Photonic Science from Clemson University, and I've worked on a wide variety of projects, from satellite imagery to explosions to lasers. From working on all these things, I've learned this: everything is connected in a deep, beautiful, profound way. The more we can understand this together, the more we can appreciate what we are surrounded by!

I enjoy tutoring, because I love seeing that "Aha!" moment a student gets when they finally understand a concept.

I enjoy volunteering, because I enjoy seeing the positive difference I can make in my community, and in other people's lives.

I enjoy my professional work because I love the thrill of a new and difficult challenge. The reward is being able to understand the world around us just a little bit better!

    Frequently asked questions

I like to spend a few minutes getting to know the new student. What is their personal background? Who are they as a person? What are their passions?  This typically leads into questions like, "What, specifically, do they find confusing about a topic?" and "At what level would they like to understand the material?"

Since completing my Ph.D. in Physics, I've dedicated myself to sharing my passion for science with others. A big part of this is putting in hundreds of volunteer hours to help middle school and high school students see the beauty in the world around them, and understanding it on a deeper level.

I've typically worked with middle school and high school students, but I've also helped adults gain a better understanding of math and science concepts!
