About
Hi! My name is Alex Leek. I am a Florida certified teacher with a bachelor's degree in English Education from Florida State University. I have experience teaching 8th grade Language Arts in Hillsborough county. As well as, internship teaching experience in a seventh grade English classroom. I also have ten years of experience tutoring students, ages 10-18, with reading comprehension, essay and creative writing strategies, novel studies, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, and other ELA coursework. I also have experience working with students learning English as a second language to develop their language skills and help them navigate all subject areas.
I have recently relocated to the Tampa area and I have a very flexible schedule. I am available to tutor in person if preferred, however I am also available online or over the phone.
I look forward to working with you and your student!
I chose this career because I am deeply passionate about language and literature, as well as education. I have always loved to read, write, and analyze, and it's truly a dream to be able to explore those passions with students. Ultimately, my goal is to get back into the classroom, but I also enjoy working with students one on one to help develop their skills through an individualized approach.
I have experience with, and genuinely enjoy, working with students of all ages on a variety of subjects. English is my strong suit, but I could also be helpful with Spanish, Science, and Social Studies.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
When working with a new student I always start by trying to get to know them a little bit. Either through conversation or playing a game. It's important to me as an educator to establish a relationship with my students so they feel comfortable and trust that I am here to help.
After that, I'll ask about what they would like to focus on during our sessions and which areas need the most support. We'll create a plan for our sessions accordingly.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Florida State University with a degree in English Education.
I am a Florida Ceritifed Teacher with an ESOL endorsement.
I have countless hours of experience working with students of all ages through tutoring, mentoring, nannying, camp counseling, and teaching.
I have experience teaching 7th and 8th grade Language Arts specifically, and have interned and observed in grade levels ranging from 6th-12th.
