I get excited when the student has there "ah hah" moment and they realize that it is easier than they thought. Their confidence grows and then their courage to venture where they previously ran from the unknown.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Determine what the student's need(s) are.
Determine how the student understands or approaches the topic.
What the student's likes and frame of references to make the math relatable
Ask the student to trust me because there's no pressure or judgement; I am on their side and there to support them.
talk/teach the topic with them in mind and relatable to what their interests are. Asking questions, checking for understanding along the way. Model the topic and then let them practice and ask them why they did what did to help shape their independent thinking. Encourage communication from them to me: ask questions, express their thoughts, and speak when they don't understand.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
8 years Public school teacher middle school grades 6-8, 3 years high school grades 9-10, 4 years elementary summer school grades 2-5 at the Boy's and Girls Club of Central Florida.

How did you get started teaching?
I have always been a teacher/trainer in my jobs over the last 40 years. Teaching middle school because that was when I decided to quit school and I did learning in HS. I now have 3 college degrees and graduated in top 3% of the University; that's because I fell in love with learning.
What types of students have you worked with?
Learning challenged students, at risk students, all races and economic backgrounds, and ages from 7-21. I have worked with students with EBD, ADHD, Austism Spectrum and some gifted students in my private tutoring.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Feel comfortable that they are willing to support and encourage you.
