Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process is first asking about schedule to make sure it lines up, then letting the client talk about their specific needs as everyone needs help in different areas, after that working with them to create a personalized plan, one that they help create, that best satisfies their needs, finally setting up a few sessions with that plan then revising if needed.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a TA (teaching assistant) at my high school, I have edited papers from students through care.com, and I got a 27 on my ACT (including a 33 in reading).
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I really like to work with the client around the time needed and what they are comfortable with. I usually start around 10 per hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I became a teaching assistant/tutor at my high school when I was a freshman. It was quite fulfilling to help students with their schoolwork and even more so when they got a problem or concept they were stuck on!
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students of all types. A lot of my teaching is through relating it back to things the student understands, so if they play sports, relating it to that sport.I have also worked with kids with autism and others with test taking anxiety, which I had for a long time.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I was editing a paper for a second time client, and she asked me to add some concept critiques for her paper. I told her I was happy to do so, and in the end, she was quite happy with the result.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone in which you relate to their answers. If you relate to someone and "vibe" with them, then it will be a lot easier to work with them!
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
I think students should tell their teacher all of their academic needs and all needs that impact their learning!
