About

I excelled in my english and writing classes at Cape Fear (particularly scientific and essay writing), and consider these to be one of my strongest areas of expertise. I took several mathematics classes during my time at CFCC, from precalculus algebra to precalculus trigonometry to statistics, with the last being calculus 1. I have taken chemistry, biological anthropology, environmental science and biology courses, which led me to the field I am most passionate about today: evolutionary biology.

-Recent of Associate of Science graduate from Cape Fear Community College

-Graduated with distinction from Cape Fear Community College

-Dean’s List, Honor's List and President’s List during various semesters at CFCC

-Currently working towards a B.S. of Environmental Science with a concentration in Biological Sciences at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington

-Former student editor of Portals Magazine at CFCC

-Former teacher and teacher’s assistant at City Ballet of Wilmington

    Frequently asked questions

In my studying experience as a student, I found that problem solving worksheets (particularly in chemistry and maths) helped me best to see and work through the problem. It made taking tests so much easier when I could see how a problem was done and it helped me remember formulas when I could see how they related to a question. As a tutor I would be committed to finding resources that would help my student succeed in the classroom and beyond.

The maths and sciences I think I would be most comfortable teaching would be Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Chemistry, Environmental Science and Biology.

I wasn’t always fond of math when I was younger but since taking several in the last few years I’ve realized that it’s a very important tool that will help you succeed in whatever path you choose in life, though it may seem like a cruel torture device at times ;). I’ve always loved science and making things since I was a kid but math always seemed to get in the way of the next cool experiment when I was younger. But now, climbing the ladder of completing those classes while gaining new information on how to solve these puzzles really has helped me as a scientist, my program, in my job, and even in my daily life. So I hope that I can help ease the math related stress and encourage students and help them see that math really can be pain free.

Writing is a bit different, it doesn’t require a calculator or have formulas but can it can be practiced in the same way by finding resources and examples. It’s an intense critical thinking exercise: you’ve been assigned a subject to write about with a certain number of words or pages in an assignment and you’re tasked with making that quota while conveying a certain idea or report. It can be a difficult task to manage since writing can be very time consuming, especially in this busy day and age where students barely have time to spend taking care of themselves. So it’s very valuable to get in the right headspace before starting your paper, not beating yourself up about it when you reach a mental (or writer’s 😉) block, take advantage of your resources (computer, library, etc.), and most of all making it a fun experience. Writing can be a joy although many of us feel very intimidated by it. I hope I can make writing a stress free experience for my students and help them create an excellent finished product that they are proud of.

I was a teacher and teacher’s assistant at City Ballet of Wilmington from 2015-2017.

$15 for the first hour, and then $10 for the second and any hours to follow that session.

Looking for work while I finish my Bachelors Degree.

I’ve worked with children before; babysitting, teaching, assisting and working with children ages 3-14 at a local ballet school. I’m very patient and love working with kids. Tutoring will be a new and exciting experience and I look forward to educating kids and helping them grow in their abilities while making it fun for them. Learning can be such a joy and kids shouldn’t have to dread their school studies.

Graduating with my Associate of Science. I look forward to graduating several more times with different degrees but this was a very encouraging experience. Affording college was something I was worried about for a while, and community college helped me achieve my dreams and making the next few years and degrees at a university more affordable. I made some great friends and I loved my teachers. Community college can get a bad rap sometimes but I treasure so many of my teachers and experiences at CFCC as they’ve shaped me into who I am today. I left CFCC proud of the work I’d done and grateful for the people I met.
