Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Patience and listening. Understand your personality, understand your goals... work together, and help you remember tricks and methods to solving each question. Once we can start using callbacks, your memory will really start to improve. We will build off of each class - and you'll be a rockstar!
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
- 200/200 Praxis Math Exam Score
- BA in Communication Studies + Information Science & Technology (University of Tennessee, 2012)
- 100 Hr. TEFL Certification (Oxford Seminars, 2014)
- Certification for Teaching (Teach Now, 2018)
-120 Hr. TESOL Certification (International Open Academy, 2020)
- Eight years of professionally teaching
- Five years of online tutoring
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
On average, I charge around $80-120/hr... however, I understand different students have different budgets, so I'm happy to talk - and if we get along, I can be flexible.
How did you get started teaching?
I took a big plunge and moved to Shanghai, China, in 2014. There, I began a career as a teacher and education actress. I studied an online teaching certification course to become a professional tutor and opened up my own tutoring company. I worked part-time recording video and audio for educational apps - and continue getting involved with similar projects here in the USA. Eventually, my tutoring company branched out into a performing arts school - and I hosted an acting summer camp for students ages 6-18.
Many students still study with me from overseas - but the timezones keep me from continuing that fulltime. I love the overlap of technology and education... quarantine will push this industry to keep growing. It's fantastic having so much accessible to you in class -
What types of students have you worked with?
A large variety - international, pre-k, high school, adult, autistic, AP, everyone. For me... I am empathetic and clever - so I like working with committed students/families who want to learn and achieve their goals.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
You are influenced by who you're around. When you're taught by an enthusiastic teacher - you will pick up on their energy. Find a teacher who is engaging, creative, and precise (me!) :D
