About

I have been tutoring students of all ages and abilities in Math, Reading, and Writing since I was in middle school. It was during this time that I learned I had a true knack and absolute love for tutoring. There is nothing more fulfilling to me as an educator than seeing my students not only succeed, but being confident in their ability to achieve their goals.

I believe that communiction between student and teacher is vital to success. By effectively communicating not only how to do something, but why, what it actually means, and how it applies to the world, students are better able to grasp difficult topics and see how they fit into the world. Often times, it is simply that things are too abstract or too concrete for different kinds of people's brains to understand thins easily. My goal in educating students is to tailor my lessons to the student's communcation and comprehension style to make information more easily accessible, and then build up their weaknesses in the process. I also strive for my students to have the tools to approach things they haven't seen before and figure them out independently. No one should have a tutor forever--that would mean the tutor is doing a bad job! There is much more I could go into detail here about my teaching philosophy, but it is much easier to do in person! Set up a meeting with me and learn how Juniper Street Tutoring can get you where you need to be.

    Frequently asked questions

I tutoried all through middle school, high school, and college. I have a BA in English from the University of Washington, Seattle, and completed all requirements for the English Language Arts Teaching Endorsement. While my degree is in English, Math is actually what I tutor the most. I have a long and passionate history with math. Ask me about it!

I also worked at Kumon while in high school, where I worked directly with ESL, ELL, Dyslexic, Autistic, and Gifted students. Because of this experience, I especially love to work with students from all backgrounds. My cousin is Gifted, and I have been helping keep his brain busy since he was in kindergarten. My other cousin is developmentally delayed, and I have been helping her tackle topics in all areas of academia her entire life, even through high school and college.

$50/hour for middle school level and higher.

    $40/hour for elementary level.

I do offer shorter lessons on a case by case basis, typically for very young students who cannot do long lessons and are in the most basic of topics. Inquire for pricing details!

In middle school, my teacher noticed how much I helped my classmates and decided to recruit me for her pilot program of TA's being in-class tutors for lower grades. I worked with students who were desperately behind in their studies. In high school I began working after school with some struggling classmates to help them pass our math class. Seeing the moment my classmate realized she could achieve more than she ever thought, that she could do it with the right kind of help, was the most amazing experience. I fell in love with teaching, and the rest is history!

I have worked with students aged 4 to 30, male and female. I have worked with students that were extremely behind in their understanding, and a few that were very far ahead. I have also worked with people from all backgrounds, including those in high-need high-risk schools. I have also assisted with students who are dyslexic, autistic, highly capable, ESL/ELL, and developmentally delayed.
