About
I help student speakers, readers, and writers ages 14 to 60-plus realize their academic and career goals. As a teacher, tutor, and educational consultant, I know what it takes to succeed, both in school and professionally. I work hard, provide immediate feedback, and have a good sense of humor.
Over the past 20 years, I have taught students from a wide range of educational and cultural backgrounds. For example, many of my students have been raised speaking Spanish at home. At the nonprofit New Haven Reads, for example, I worked with primary school students on reading comprehension. I relish the opportunity to help each student thrive.
I have earned a BA from The University of Michigan, an MA from New York University, and a Ph.D. from The City University of New York. This training and my teaching during graduate school helps me direct the progress of a wide range of students.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
During the initial session, I ask students to show me what they can do and to explain their process of doing it. This helps me assess their preferred learning styles and potential areas for improvement.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned a BA (University of Michigan) with a dual major in English and Film Studies, an MA (NYU) in Film Studies, and a PhD in English with a certificate in American Studies.
I have worked in education since 1991 as tutor, professor, and consultant. I have tutored reading and writing at a nonprofit called New Haven Reads https://newhavenreads.org/ and at New York City College of Technology http://www.citytech.cuny.edu/
I teach both Professional Writing and English composition and literature, including AP Literature and composition, and I have graded AP essays in Louisville, KY. Each tutoring experience has contributed to my toolkit.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My services range from $25-50/hour depending on students' needs and the location of tutoring.
How did you get started teaching?
While in graduate school, during the 1990s, I taught English Composition and English as a Second Language.
