About
My great experience as a teacher! With an MA in English and an MFA in Writing, I have been teaching for 11 years as an English writing instructor at the college level, including Fiction and Advanced Rhetoric. I also have 6 years' experience as an ESL instructor--I was director of ESL at Bellevue University in Nebraska and spearheaded an adult ESL program in the latino community where I taught citizenship courses. I have also taught TOEFL prep courses.
I can teach the basics--developmental English and grammar and writing for both native and non-native English speakers.
This broad background also comes with my goal of customizing my sessions so that YOU succeed!
My students. My students. My students.
I love connecting with my students in every class. I listen and use the Socratic method of asking questions to dig deeper with them. When they are engaged, I'm happiest! It's all about my students.
For non-native ESL students, I listen to their speech and unravel what they're trying to say. One of my past students, Soo Kyung-Lee from Korea said, "You already know what we're trying to say." I tutored her so that she got an A in her English Composition class. She and I still keep in touch today.
