Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to access where the student is and what their interests are, and I like to talk to parents (if my student is younger) to see what feedback, goals, and needs are prompting the tutoring experience. With this information, I can design a plan that fits the students academic needs and personal interests.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In addition to 14 years in the classroom, seven years in school leadership, and three years as a curriculum writer for the National Children's Advocacy Center, I hold a Bachelor's in English and journalism; an M.A. in Literature; and an M.A. in educational leadership.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge $75 an hour for writing lessons.
How did you get started teaching?
I am one of those rare folks who knew early on that my purpose was to teach.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with struggling students as well as gifted and talented students who need more extension and motivation. I especially love to work with students who are "afraid" to write or who believe they don't write well.
