Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to have fun and really get to know the student. Building a relationship is the most important thing to build success with your students. Differentiating instruction based on student's needs and being flexible when something isn't working.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
16 years of teaching elementary school. Certified in General Education K-8, Special Education K-12, English as a Second Language K-12. Private in-home tutoring.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
$20 an hour.
How did you get started teaching?
I was a paralegal while I was in college. I graduated from Texas Woman's University and started teaching. I went to SMU immediately after for my Master's Degree.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've worked with all students. Students with disabilities, low socioeconomic, higher socioeconomic and diverse populations.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have a large family. My husband, grown daughter, teenage son and three grandkids. I make memories with them all the time! I will be glad with this pandemic is over. I am a social, friendly person and miss interacting.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Try your hardest. Not every student learns at the same rate and the same way but we will work together to find your best way of learning. As long as you are willing to work with me, I will work hard for you as well.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Be honest and ask questions. Many students don't want to ask questions so it can be hard to assess what a student truly needs help with to succeed. I find many students typically know how they like to learn but do not often articulate that to their teacher.
