Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start with the basics: getting to know the student, their struggles and where they strive best. I map out an individualized, differentiated plan where certain areas would be worked on. The student would be free to participate and engage in his/her learning process and have ownership in class.
How did you get started teaching?
I decided to study education in college back in 2008 and started working during my practice in 2012.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've had the opportunity to work with a variety of students with different backgrounds, socioeconomic statuses and different needs. I've worked with English speaking students/ bilingual students and Spanish speaking students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One recent event that I am very happy to share was to see my students graduating and actually passing on to the next grade and me feeling so proud of them.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?
I think my advice for the client would be to try and identify what areas they want to work on the most, specify their needs and be willing to work hard for what they want to achieve with their facilitator (tutor).
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
I think some of the questions that should be asked could be:
What are the goals and needs?
What do you want to achieve?
How much time should be dedicated to the instructional time?
