About this tutor

My specialty is catering the study plan to the student's individual needs. In addition to my tutoring practice, I have experience working with kids through after school programs, camp counseling and teaching music lessons. I am able to use my experience to identify the type of learner that each student is in order to cater my tutoring curriculum for their optimal success.

I enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that I have truly improved someones comprehension of a subject. I have fun understanding their point of view, and creating a unique path for their retention.

Jacob tutored my daughter in Math in high school. He was engaging, patient and able to truly listen to her questions and determine exactly what it was she did not understand. He would provide an explanation and if she struggled with it - he would simply find another way to address her questions and explain the material . He was patient, encouraging, and creative in his approach. My daughter excelled for the first time in Math with Jacob’s help. I highly recommend him.

Jacob is very patient with students of any age. He is very knowledgeable and can explain difficult concepts in a way that makes sense to kids and adults alike! Jacob made sure that my son really understands each problem before moving on. He is great at approaching a problem from various angles to help students truly understand the concept. I highly recommend him as a tutor!

His level of patients was truly superb! I’m not the fastest at math, and have often found my teachers frustrated while working with me, but not Mr. Jacob! I have never been a math person, but under Mr. Jacob’s instruction I was finally able to gain confidence in math.

Jacob is patient and kind. He worked with my son to catch him up on geometry. Before working with Jake, my son felt very discouraged, but after a few months he was getting A's on tests and his confidence was back. He even says that listening in class is easier now that he understands what the teacher is talking about.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I start with the curriculum that the school has assigned. We will work through homework problems together. Then I identity the gaps in their understanding and create more activities and material so they can grow in specific areas. This will ensure they get the highest grades, while retaining the material. My goal is to increase their confidence in learning, give them tools for the classroom, and facilitate practice to solidify their understanding.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I am currently a student at Portland State University. I have many years of experience as a tutor, camp counselor, after school program aid, and music teacher. On a personal note, I am the big brother to 5 younger siblings, so I have been helping with homework my whole life.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

My standard rate is $20 per hour.
