I recently retired (early) from public school teaching in order to focus on my passion for working with individual students. My favorite times as a teacher were when I could focus on one struggling child without interruption, and watch their face light up when they finally "got it". Unfortunately, in an overcrowdwd classroom, that was not possible very often.
I used to be a lawyer many years ago, followed by working in international adoption, before going back to get my Master's in Education. After that I became interested in teaching English to speakers of other languages and earned my ESOL endorsement. I am passionate about helping children and adults become better readers, writers and speakers.
I also love working with students on their early math skills! (Kinder through fourth grade math levels, regardless of the age of the student.).
I have had lots of experience and success working with students with special needs including autism, oppositional defiance disorder, ADHD and children who simply lack confidence and need a caring adult to help them believe they CAN learn!
As I mentioned above, my favorite part of teaching is helping individual students gain confidence and reach their potential. I gave as much of myself as I could to those needy students in my public school classrooms, but in the end, the overcrowding, lack of support and lack of discipline became too much. I desire to use my gifts to reach perhaps an equal number of students, but one at a time! 😊
My third grader built his leadership skills and confidence working with Bonnie. She allowed him the space to get things done while also following up in a timely manner. We would definitely work with her again.
Bonnie truly cares about her students! My son thrived under her caring guidance in all subjects.
Bonnie was my son’s third grade teacher and he really enjoyed having her. She was very nurturing and thoughtful in her interactions with students and parents. Bonnie has a gift of patience that I was so amazed by. Thankful she had a part in my kiddos schooling.
Thank you Ms. Bonnie for your effort with my son, I will never forget it.You have changed my life.My son came to US without any English education, and now with your help he can speak English as native speakers. I can’t believe it😍😍😍, I really love your teaching style.I appreciate your effort and I’m glad that I met you.
I will spend the first session getting to know the student and, if desired, their parent. I want to know what their goals are, their preferred learning style, their likes and dislikes. I will obtain as much information as possible from parents and teachers about what the student's greatest needs are. Then we will design a plan to target those specific needs. If students have their own curriculum, we can use that. If not I can recommend some resources that can be downloaded for free or purchased.
I have a bachelor's degree in Psychology, a Master's of Education and a J.D (law) degree. I have training and experience in those fields as well as social work (specifically, working with children who were adopted and may be having adjustment issues.)
