When I first meet a student, we do several activities that dispaly his/her strengths and weaknesses so that, after talking about goals, we focus specifically on those needs. Many of my students have stayed in contact after they've moved away, and I've been invited to quinceaneras and weddings in several countries. The things that students often tell me are that they're really comfortable working with me, that my positive attitude encourages them to never give up and that they appreciate my endless patience. Originally earning a Masters in Education at the University of Santa Barbara, CA in 2010, I am currently a full time literacy instructor based in Portland OR. My passion lies in an individualized approach to educating others, implementing various learning approaches and instilling new skills based on each child's unique needs. I am a graduate of Bard College, known for its creative writing and peer tutoring programs. I have several years of experience with elementary and middle school aged kids. I am a tutor who really enjoys helping kids feel excited about the things they’re learning. I like getting to know my students in order to figure out what motivates them as an individual. I am patient and have a good sense of humor to make kids feel like the work we’re doing can be fun. I tailor our lessons to meet individual needs, and have a breadth of subject experience including essay writing, creative writing, mathematics, and history.

As a graduate student and mentor currently enrolled at Portland State University, I spend lots of my time supporting others. I have two years of experience as a special education teacher, as well as a bachelors degree in English and Special Education. I grew up in a family of educators and helping my mom as a kindergarten teacher for the past 20 years and my older sister as an English teacher. I am very passionate and am able to provide student’s clear access to their individual growth.
