About
My goal is to provide a convenient and helpful service.
I'm a full time, online tutor committed to my students 10a-10p / 6 days a week and after 3:00 on Sundays EDT.
I do not have a set session length. For each student I try to schedule enough time to cover that student's needs most of the time. For most students I start out scheduling an hour-long session and we adjust the amount of time I schedule as we grow to better understand the student’s needs.
I hold a Texas Teaching Certificate, in Mathematics and Composite Science, for Grades 6-12. I've held various positions in Austin area schools including Math Teacher and Science Teacher. The schools and districts I've worked with include Austin ISD, Leander ISD and University Charter Schools.
I have an Associates Degree from Austin Community College (ACC) and a BS from the University of Texas (UT). At ACC I was primarily interested in oracle database. At UT my interest was primarily Nutritional Biochemistry.
I started tutoring mathematics for the first time as a service of the National High School Honor Society at Westlake High School (back in 1985). I became interested in teaching mathematics professionally in 1994. At that time I was working as the Physics teacher at Crockett High School/Austin ISD and had an opportunity to teach computer math and become certified in mathematics. Over time my academic interests changed from science to technology to mathematics. After three years of working as a part time Wyzant math tutor, I quit my job as a technology teacher with Bits, Bytes and Bots and started working full time with Wyzant math students.
I've been working full time since January of 2014. Being able to fully commit my professional time to tutoring students allows me to immerse myself in the study and teaching of math and science and gives me the privilege of working with many great people. I hope to continue this work well into the future.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Before the first lesson, I send the student an invitation to join WyzAnt. WyzAnt is also a middle service that protects the learner and the tutor by establishing a safe payment and communication methods. It is a safe and accredited service tasked with ensuring all parties involved receive their dues in a respectable manner and provides amazing tools for online instruction.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I hold a Texas Teaching certificate for secondary math and science.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate is $60.00/hr (30 minutes session are $30, 60 minute $60 etc...). I charge by the time spent with the student - not the time scheduled. Same day cancellations or re-schedules pay for 30 minutes. There is no penalty for occasionally canceling with proper notice. Cancel for any reason - no need to hold a session if it isn’t needed or wanted that day.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Not every tutor and student are a perfect match. Take time to make sure that your subject needs are what your tutor is best at and/or most interested in teaching!
