About

Welcome to Locked-In Tutoring - A place where positivity, strategy, and organized methods get you the grades you want.

Learning starts with restructuring the way we study, and take in information, in all our experience, we have seen that every student, with the right tools, can succeed in every subject.

Our strategy is simple - your first meeting will include a consultation with what your goals are and a general understanding as to how you conduct yourself in your learning environment. Parents - we will also be very interested in speaking with you and addressing your concerns as well!

I started tutoring because I was stuck in a system of lectures, boring homework assignments, and teachers that knew their subject so well but could not explain it to their students, my goal is to make learning fun, and we are here just to do that. We also work with students on their organization and scheduling so they can use these methods as they go on to bigger and better things!

Listen to these testimonials -

"Choosing Arvind as a tutor was honestly one of the best decisions I could make for myself. He makes himself always available for his tutees and makes sure they feel confident for exam day. Not only did he help me prepare but encouraged me on exam days when I was the most stressed and anxious. Knowing that there was someone there to support me and someone I could ask questions to at any point was the best part. Arvind gives you all the tools you need to succeed including study strategies and helpful tips for exam day. Thanks, Arvind you're awesome!" - Kerry (Tutored in college physics 1 and 2)

"Arvind - you have been an effective tutor who knows how to facilitate compassion while helping me understand the concepts of general chemistry in my own way. In addition, you were able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and gave me study tools that improved the efficiency of our tutoring sessions. Moreover, acknowledging my emotional stress and addressing it with encouragement has given me academic confidence that I never received from impersonal lecture halls" - Rueben (Tutored in college chemistry 1 and 2)

"Arvind's abilities come from his experience, he explained to me that the only way to get over my testing anxiety was to practice being anxious and perform under pressure. He insisted I take practice exams in testing like situations as well as time my practice questions which no one had ever told me to do before. I got really upset during our initial session over the fact that I have struggled so much with Anatomy and Physiology and felt I would never be a nurse because of it. While so many people would have just brushed it off, Arvind and I went for a walk as he told me about his struggles as a student, and how he learned through trial and error. He also reminded me that regardless of what grades you get, you will get to any goal if you want it bad enough. Arvind is not only a great tutor but now a great friend and mentor. Thanks, man." - Stuart (Tutored in Anatomy and Physiology)

Do not hesitate to contact me for any help! I would love to ensure your success as we push forward!

I just love watching people succeed.

I do not think people realize how capable they are, and with a little structure and push, we can really give someone all they ever wanted. There is nothing like seeing someone succeed in an exam or class.

Arvind was able to recognize my strengths and weaknesses, and helped me form effective study methods designed towards my success. Moreover, he was able to go the second mile by addressing my emotional stress with genuine compassion and encouragement.

    Frequently asked questions

The first meeting will be slightly longer than average - I spend the first 15 minutes with a general assessment, asking the student how they study, what they do during their class, and the list goes on. The goal is to restructure the acquisition and studying methods so that eventually, the tutor is not even needed! The next hour is going over their concerns, which I would ask the student to list out prior to our initial meeting and send to me over email.

I also would like to meet with parents of students who are under 18 and still in high school. I need to understand what the parent's goals are and ensure that their concerns are taken into consideration. I might also explain what I found in the initial assessment and be able to make our tutoring a team effort.

I have my bachelors degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I received my double major in Exercise and Sport Science as well as Music. While also at UNC-Chapel Hill, I was on the Pre-medicine course track,  resulting in a numerous amount of science courses taken. I was on a music scholarship at the University which developed my time management skills, and the ability to juggle many things (I also worked in a lab, a part-time job, and ran my own company while in college). I will now be getting my master's degree at NC State while preparing for the MCAT and medical school.

My pricing is as follows -

Once a week - 35$ for one hour for tutoring,

Saxophone Lessons - 40$ for one hour, 25$ for half an hour

I started teaching after learning that I was helping my friends on our class material. I rejected the lecture style and really found out that lecturing was the best way to learn if you teach the material you quickly learn what you do not know! I love people and find that I connect with other's well.

Here are my student ranges -

8th grade to Seniors in college

    ADD/ADHD Students

LGBTQA+ students, and those of all genders
