I am a newly retired elementary teacher. The more recent years I taught gifted & talented students in both reading and math in an everyday program. I have taught grades 1-6 throughout my career, but tend to choose grades 3- 6 as my expert level. I really enjoy kids. Past students would say that my classroom environment felt safe, nurturing, and positive. They were not afraid to make mistakes because they knew I would help them be comfortable with the material and try many ways to get them there. I've always made connections quickly with both boys and girls. My biggest strengths are understanding and patience. Learning new material takes time and multiple strategies are needed to find the students learning styles and strengths. All kids can learn. That being said, I am still old school. We will use paper, pencils, and show our thinking in math and reading. I want my students to understand "why" they are learning the material and why a strategy works. My students leave feeling confident and ready to take on the next challenge.
