Learning With Laughter

About

I love working 1:1 with students and helping them to find joy in learning. I believe that everyone learns a little differently and needs something different to be successful. I enjoy the challenge of finding out what that means for each student. This could mean a quiet, distraction-free session or implementing short breaks. It could mean including games and fun activities or allowing short off-topic conversations to make a student feel comfortable. I knew a student whose listening comprehension went up significantly if she could jump on her trampoline while I read to her!

I have 10 years of experience. I was a paraeducator for two years, working with 7th and 8th graders in the Special Education program. Then, I went to college for Elementary Education and History. After this, I worked for 5 years as a Title I teacher. Here, I worked with students from grades K-5 who needed extra support with literacy and math. I also ran the after school program during this time. Then, I taught 3rd grade remotely during the pandemic shutdown. After this, I taught 5th grade in-person and then 4th grade in-person. I discovered that I prefer working with individual students as opposed to an entire classroom because it allows me to build a better rapport with the student and focus on their specific needs. With this in mind, I turned to tutoring.

I am also an avid writer. I write extensively as a hobby and have spent over 15 years honing my craft. My father is an author with a published book and I was one of his initial readers who helped him during the writing process. I love helping children explore their creative side and discover the joys of both reading and writing.

History is another fascination of mine. I focus on American history, from Pre-Contact time to the American Revolution. I especially enjoy sharing details of history that are often overlooked.

I can offer reading, writing, and social studies tutoring for students from grades K-12, and tutoring in math or science for grades K-5. Please reach out to me for availability.

I really loved working with Ms. Stevens! She was so nice and sweet, and it felt like I was talking to a close friend. I especially loved that she let me pick my own writing topics.

Ive been working with Nicole for a little over a month now I believe. I was looking for a tutor for my daughter because shes struggling a lot in school. My kid has a IEP and shes incredibly behind in reading. I spoke with Nicole and had her do a almost conference with my kid before deciding on her to make sure that my daughter liked her (shes incredibly picky) My daughter Ava anded up loving her. She likes her so much that she even talked about her in school which is HUGE (Ava hates school). Ava actually enjoys working with her and enjoys her sessions. Nicole has things that Ava can print out and work on, she keeps Ava very engaged and I just couldnt be happier!

Ive been very pleased with Nicole as a writing tutor for my high school freshman son. In just a month, her kind and patient approach has already made a noticeable difference. She prepares very well for lessons and checks in afterward, showing a strong commitment to his progress. Her thorough teaching style is appreciated, and Im confident about the positive impact shell continue to have on my sons writing skills. I highly recommend her.

The best tutor we’ve ever had! Very patient, creative, organized, supportive, encouraging and the best part…my son loves her! I hope to have her tutor my youngest as well. I’ve seen the difference she is making with my oldest and I love it.

I haven’t seen my son stay so engaged in his learning! My son has Autism which poses some challenges when it comes to his education, but Nicole meets him where he’s at, knowing when to shift gears, and gives him plenty of breaks. He is learning so fast and enjoys his time with Nicole. Her teaching style combines theory and practice by utilizing hands on activities that keeps my son moving and motivated. My son appears happy and excited through the entire lesson, to the point where he doesn’t want it to stop! I hope that all prospective tutees can experience this delight!
