About
From a camp counselor, to an educator at museums like the USS Consitution Museum, the Paul Revere House, and the National Museum of Amercian History, to a college-level educator, I am an enthusiastic educator of all ages. For topics ranging from history, anthropology, government, rhetoric, culture, and social studies, I love to teach using examples from archives and museums. Social Studies doesn't have to be boring!
While earning my Master's Degree in Public History, I've gained wonderful and practical experience in teaching about the past. While most of my expertise fits in the historical sphere, I'm a pro at writing and editing papers and essays (I even like to help with the research part). Learning how to properly and critically read and compose a persuasive arguement are two skills that came with my degrees. Having taught students from kindergarten all the way through college, I am up for anything!
I love what I've chosen to study. I have such a passion for the past and learning about people in unique ways. Even if I can get one student to find a topic of history that they love or help them right an essay that articulates their voice in a way that is new for them is so inspiring. Learning happens everywhere, not just in a classroom, so I love to find other ways to teach. When I see a student get excited about a topic and forget they are learning, I know I've done my job.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I like to get to know a student's interests. Even if they aren't interested in the subject that I can help them with, I want to find away to connect the subject to something they like. This will make learning easier and more fun! Second, of course, I like to understand what kinds of methods help the student learn best. In some cases, they might know they are more visual learners. In others cases, we can work on some exercises and see what they like the most.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I've been trained to teach programs in the museum field as well as composed lecture for college classes. Where my educational expertise is social studies based, my advanced during has required a detail oriented writing and reading ability that I hope to also help students with (college essays, poems, or anything in between).
How did you get started teaching?
I got started tutoring kids that I babysat for and then writing and leading educational programs as a camp counselor.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with students from 6-60! I've adapted lessons to find the leaning abilities and interests of every demographic.
