Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
We will start with a free online session to get acquainted and to determine if we want to work together. During that session I want to find out your goals and what type of help you are looking for. All sessions will be online using Zoom (and with additional equipment to facilitate being able to see what we are talking about).
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a BA with High Distinction from Manchester University, and I have an MA in Mathematics from Illinois State University. I recently completed an online course about online teaching.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I currently charge $20 per full hour session or $10 per half hour session.
How did you get started teaching?
I used to play school with my siblings when I was a child. When I reached high school I persuaded my school to start a Future Teachers of America club. As a club member I was able to work with my former 4th grade teacher and teach a math lesson on problem solving. While in college, I tutored children at a near-by elementary school. At the university level I was hired as a teaching assistant. During graduate school I was hired as a faculty assistant and assigned to teach my own classes.
What types of students have you worked with?
All kinds! University students, high school students, elementary students, and pre-school students. American students and African students. Traditional students and Montessori students. I enjoy variety!
