Competent Tutor For Middle And Elementary School Students
About
I cannot wait to get started with tutoring again virtually! I am currently a college freshmans, and I worked as a paid tutor for two 7th-8th grade students twice a week, every week for over two years while I was in high school. I would love to work with that same age, early high school, or elementary school; I am pretty flexible! I specialize in math, science, or Spanish, but am willing to help out in any subjects.
I am currently finishing my freshman year at the University of Notre Dame as a Neuroscience and Behavior major with a Supplementary major in Spanish. I finished as valedictorian of my high school class of over 600. In high school, I took many AP/honors classes and scored a 1510 on the SAT. My experience both as a student and as a tutor will equip me to best assist anyone who needs the help. I cannot wait to start sharing my help and interests to help others thrive and succeed in school!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I usually start by looking at whatever homework or practice problems the student is assigned. Then I ask the student questions about what they think they would do to start solving the problem so that they can try to make sense of the thought process on their own. Then, I gauge their level of understanding and work through the problem with them, providing them with the tips to understand the basic principle behind the problem.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I was a paid tutor for 2.5 years throughout high school for middle school students. I tutored 2-3x per week, and specialized in math, science, and Spanish. I also did a variety of tutoring jobs for high school students through the National Honor Society Program as my high school. I have experience tutoring ADD students and helping them succeed. I was also a lifeguard at my neighborhood pool for 4 sumemrs, so I have experience working with younger kids even though it was not necessarily an academic setting.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
For one hour online, I will typically charge $20/hour, but I am flexible to adjust this.
How did you get started teaching?
I started tutoring family friends, then eventually word of mouth gave me some other opportunities throughout my hometown and high school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with middle school and early high school students. I have also worked with students with ADD, which has allowed me to discover many different ways to reach students' best learning styles.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am incredibly grateful and fond of all of the memories I have made in my freshman year of college. I have been very privileged to have this experience, so by tutoring, I hope to give back through education.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Hire someone who you think would be friendly, relatable, and has recent experience working with somebody your age and in your topics of interest.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Students should think through why they are confused, and ask which topics and problems are the main points of whatver they are going over.
