Enthusiastic Tutor
About
As a former 2nd grade teacher, I have 6 years of experience working with students and building their self-confidence as they continue their academic journey learning new skills and strategies. As a teacher, I know the importance of motivation and self-confidence and its direct correlation to improved academic achievement. I enjoy working with students and helping them grow! I am certified in Elementary Education as well as Special Education, infancy through adult. I also have experience working with a culturally diverse population and their families. I am very familiar with helping students set academic goals and helping them track their progress to increase motivation and the importance of changing a child's mindset from one that says "I can't do this" to " I will have to practice and put forth a lot of effort, but I know I will be able to do this." Attitude is everything.
I enjoy seeing students change their mindset about their capabilities and having the opportunity to work with all different diverse learners! It is absolutely incredible when you see a child feel confident and motivated to continue to learn new information and apply the strategies you have taught them to be successful! In the end, it is all about independence and being able to apply what they have learned to be problem solvers and critical thinkers!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First and foremost, I like to talk with the family about their child to try and get a sense of how their family feels their child is doing academically as well as any emotional or behavioral concerns. I also like to find out the student’s strengths and build off those to improve achievement in areas that seem to be a struggle. It is important to get to know the student and start building a relationship with them on day 1. Students are far more likely to succeed and want to learn when they feel comfortable with their teacher.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am MD certified in Elementary Education and Special Education.
I have taught 2nd grade for 6 years in Montgomery County. I work with students from a kindergarten level to 3rd grade.
