Hi! My name is Amie, and I make personal tutoring as personal as possible!
My technique is simple: make language learning personal to you, the student, make it fun, and of course, keep it affordable.
As your teacher, I believe my job is to design a system of learning that is tailored to YOU and how you learn.
That is why every single one of my lessons is tailored specifically to my student based on your specific needs, your interests, and your ability to pay. I do not believe someone’s paycheck should limit or determine their education - only their mind, effort, and willingness to achieve should determine that!
Our first lesson is always 60 minutes and is always FREE. It includes a four-part English proficiency assessment, a short English lesson, and a writing assignment.
You are never obligated to purchase any additional lessons going forward and may keep the lesson for future study.
After our initial assessment, we will discuss why you want to learn English. I will also get an understanding of where your personal interests lay. Whatever your reasons and whatever your interests, we will use English from those interests so the lessons feel less like work and more like delving further into your personal interests and passions!
Most importantly, they will be full of the information you can use TODAY and now, not somewhere in the distant, unforeseeable future.
I offer 1-Hour English Tutoring Sessions providing new information and lessons. I also offer 30-Minute English Conversational Sessions that allow you to practice the material covered at any time prior - even material covered through other studies.
The lesson plan we create will include a series of Tutoring or Conversational Sessions. Once the lesson plan is created we move at YOUR pace. Zip through certain lessons or take your time with others - it’s your call.

I have visited almost 40 countries and worked professionally in nine of them. I love meeting new people from different walks of life, from new cultures and societies to new languages and ways in which to communicate. That is why I love this work - it allows me to meet and learn from all kinds of people while also helping them achieve their language dreams.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, together we will assess your current English proficiency level for reading, writing, listening, and speaking, so we have an accurate place to start. Then, we will use the areas where you are most proficient to build on those that could use improvement or where you lack confidence.
Next, we will discuss why you want to learn English. Are you trying to get into an English-speaking college or technical school? Then let’s start preparing for the ESOL test together.
Do you need English to perform your job better? Let’s practice with some real-world experiences you may encounter on a daily basis to help you better prepare.
Or maybe you just moved to an English-speaking country and want to speak more with your neighbors? Whatever the reason, I will tailor your lessons so that you’re learning the vocabulary you’ll use every day.
Lastly, I will get an understanding of where your personal interests lay. Are you someone who enjoys cooking or traveling? Are you a cinephile with an interest in old Italian classics? Maybe you’re a fitness junkie who likes to listen to English? Whatever it is, we will use English from those interests so the lessons feel less like work and more like delving further into your personal interests and passions!

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Over the course of my schooling, professional life, and personal growth and travel, I have come to understand the importance of having a voice. If English is the voice you want to use, I have the experience to help you find that.
For over 20 years, I worked in government relations and advocacy in the United States and several outside developing countries. I have visited almost 40 countries and worked professionally in nine of them.
During that time, I have enjoyed great professional success representing or consulting for Members of the United States Congress, State of Florida elected officials, political party campaigns in the US and in other countries, civic and civil society organizations internationally, advocacy groups of all kinds, and Fortune 500 companies.
Today, I am a burgeoning writer and blogger. I work as a freelance writer and have also been published in online travel and lifestyle blogs and magazines.
I have not only developed a level of English writing, negotiating, speaking, and listening skills needed to work at the highest levels of any business and government but I have developed a unique style of writing that makes readers feel like they are along the journey.
I currently hold a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) from the International TEFL Academy, along with a Bachelors of Science Degree from Florida State University in Political Science and International Relations.

What types of students have you worked with?
I am confident that my expansive educational and professional experience is what allows me to be so flexible and able to work with so many different kinds of students. I look forward to putting my special brand of skills together to help you learn English as a second language.
The types of students I work with have a specific set of goals and want to work to accomplish them. Typically those are students of high school age or older who already possess a basic/beginning level of English.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I have recently started teaching English to parents of students in English as a Second Language program at a public elementary school. Most of parents are women who are unable to read in their native tongue. They are taking advantage of this program to better both their English and their overall education. It is incredibly rewarding to watch these woman expand their minds while their children do as well.
