About this tutor

I teach in a flexilbe yet firm manner, and help the students discipline themselves so that they can improve their standing as students.

I enjoy assisting the students improve themselves.  Have been teaching for over 20 years.  Was a former public and private school teacher, but now I am a private tutor.

I find it is more effective to get through to the student in a one-on-one setting, in comparison to a traditional class setting with 30+ students.

Overall great experience. Helped both my daughter and son with focus and organization. Arturo makes sure to include that in his tutoring lessons, and I am grateful for it, as are my kids.

Arturo is very professional on how he plans and works his tutoring session with my daughter. He has been very helpful in organizing difficult material in a way that they can approach as a productive session.

FAQs

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

I analyze the problem and work with the student in order to solve the issue.  I do require the student to be as honest as possible in order to solve the issue as soon as possible.

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

Graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Mass Communications.  Received Certification in Education.  Minored in History and Philosophy in college.

Taught Math, Reading, and Social Studies in the Public and Private Schools.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

$25 per hour/session.  If the students needs more time, the rate is lower.

How did you get started teaching?

I began as a substitute teacher in the public schools.

What types of students have you worked with?

From age 6 to 18.  I also work with adults who need assistance with a second language or the GED exam.

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

There was a student who had dropped out of school and needed his GED to get a job and move on with his life.  He also had problems with drugs, gangs, and so forth.  After a year of working with him, he passed the GED, and got a job as a marine mechanic.  He moved out of his house and now lives with his girlfriend.  We have stayed in touch, and we are good friends.

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?

Don't simply look for the price of the session; you must look to see if the tutor is a good fit.

What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?

Is this tutor a good fit for me?
