My name is Maya Pilgram and I am certified tutor at the FIU Student Academic Athlete Center! I have a passion for helping students learn and advance their skills. I am gifted in AP English Lanuage, IB English, history courses as well as English at the college level. I am flexible and open! I cannot wait to help you overcome your academic difficulties!

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My typical process is identifying their skill and education level by asking a series of simple, easy questions. This way I can construct a study plan that works the best with both their learning style and goals.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am at senior at FIU in political science and I have worked as tutor for the student athletes for about a year now! In addition, I tutored students in high school in various AP/IB subjects.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
My rate ranges from $45 to $55 per hour depending on the student's needs and flexibility. 2 hours would be $70 etc. I try my best to work with the student.
How did you get started teaching?
I was at a study group in high school and someone mentioned that I am very good at explaining concepts. From there, I decided to pursue tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with special needs, high school, middle school and college.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
A recent moment I was fond of is when I saw potential in one of my students, lifted them up and encouraged them. Then, almost like magic I saw them before my very own eyes begin to believe in themselves.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Please make sure that whoever you are hiring is qualified and is actively interested in your success as a student.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Is this teacher professional?
Are they open to different methods of teaching?
Are they listening to me and really making sure that I understand?
