About
I am extremely patient with struggling students and can help them break down complicated tasks into simple easy-to-understand steps. My experience of 40+ years teaching all subjects in grades 1-6 has given me great insight into student needs and finding a solution that works. I specialize in reading and writing instruction at all levels. I am also extremely competent in math at the elementary and middle school levels.
I absolutely love it when a student of mine suddenly says, "I got it! Now I understand."

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I meet with parents through a Zoom session to gain an understanding of each student's individual needs. I find out past history, including standardized test scores and student/parent concerns. I use Zoom for online lessons. I upload age, grade, and skill-appropriate reading activities and build my lesson around it. I use online and verbal responses to check comprehension and writing skills.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a college degree in education as well as several years of postgraduate work from different universities. I have completed five semesters of training in programs regarding Gifted and ESOL education. I am certified in Gifted Education which includes Children with Disabilities. I still hold a current teaching certificate in the state of Florida.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I charge a flat rate of $25 per hour. I am willing to work out arrangements for parents with more than one potential tutoring need. I also pro-rate for sessions less than one hour. My billing is through PayPal and is sent out after tutoring is complete.
How did you get started teaching?
I had several outstanding teachers in junior high school (now known as middle school) who inspired me tremendously. Miss Beach, my art teacher, was the advisor for FTA (Future Teachers of America) and with her coaching, I was hooked. I planned my entire college education before I started high school.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have taught every grade from kindergarten to 8th grade. I have experience in all subjects at the elementary level but for the past 23 years, I specialized in middle school reading, language arts, and math. The students I have worked with range from non-readers to gifted students. My expertise is helping struggling students get back to grade level.
