About
I am an English and Social Studies teacher with 10 years of experience. I have taught 7th-12th grade. For four years I taught at a hybrid virtual school, where my students earned some of the highest test scores in the state. I now work for an online virutal school that works with students all over the U.S.
I am certified to teach 6-12 English and Social Studies in Louisiana, Michigan, and Florida.
I specialize in test prep tutoring, especially for the ACT and SAT and with essay preparation.
I love working with students who have a specific goal or need, such as preparing for a test or completing a college essay, and I love knowing that I have made a difference in my studnets' lives by helping them reach their goals.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
Depending on the situation I might give a short pre-assessment or look at a student's previous work. Occasionally I simply have a conversation with the student about their strengths and weaknesses.
I also spend time making a personal connection with the student, so they know that I care about them and they can trust me.
Once I know what my student needs I break down concepts and standards to help them understand.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have been teaching English for 11 years. I have a M.Ed in Education. I am also certified to teach Social Studies and taught American History for two years in the classroom and four years online.
What types of students have you worked with?
Most of my experience hs been with high school and college students. I prefer working with students who generally don't perform well in school. I love being able to help people become successful at something they have not been able to do well in the past.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
Do I know this already? Am I using what I have already learned?
