About
I have a passion for languages and love teaching others how to communicate with more cultures. I moved to the United States from Colombia at a young age and understand it can be hard adjusting. Teaching my family English was fun and engaging as well as rewarding. Helping people is one of my core beliefs and I am dedicated to those I teach. I have a bachelors degree from Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in English, with a concentration in Writing and Rhetoric. Additionally, I received a certificate from FAU in professional and technical writing. http://linkedin.com/in/pranaramirez

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I would typically get to know them in both a personal and professional method. I would then learn what teaching methods have worked for them in the past. Once I find out which teaching style is best, I can personalize my instruction to each student. Every session, I start with a brief review of the last one to gage my students retention.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from Florida Atlantic University with a Bachelors degree in English. During my time there, I concentrated on Writing and Rhetoric and received a certificate in Professional and Technical Writing.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I typically charge $30/hour. If a student requires more time and dedication than usual, I would charge upwards of $45-50/hour.
How did you get started teaching?
Since I was 6 years old, I’ve been teaching other foreign students English.
What types of students have you worked with?
I’ve worked with fellow classmates, foreign exchange students, and immigrants of all ages.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I loved re-visiting New York City with my Husband. Going through all the different sections, like Little Italy and Chinatown, is extremely interesting and makes me want to learn other languages. There are so many cultures I want to learn about and language is the first step to truly understand another’s perspective.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
It is hard to learn from someone you don’t connect with or trust, always look for a teacher that you respect and can have a honest dialogue with. It’s important to feel comfortable in a learning environment and not feel judged at all.
