Abhi Rao

Hi! My name is Abhi and I am a rising senior at UC Riverside majoring in Mechanical Engineering with over 8 years of private tutoring experience helping students strengthen their math skills, improve grades, and build academic confidence. Mathematics is my strongest subject, and I have completed every lower-division undergraduate mathematics course offered at UCR. My academic background also includes AP Calculus AB (5), AP Chemistry (4), and AP Physics 1 and 2(4).

I work with students across a wide range of grade levels and abilities, from elementary school students learning foundational arithmetic and problem-solving skills to high school and college students taking advanced mathematics courses. I tutor Elementary school level Math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus and Calculus. Whether a student is struggling with the basics or preparing for a challenging exam, I adapt my teaching approach to meet them where they are.

My teaching philosophy is simple: every student learns differently. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, I create personalized lessons tailored to each student's strengths, challenges, goals, and learning style. I take the time to understand how each student thinks through problems so I can identify misconceptions and teach in a way that makes sense to them.

My sessions focus heavily on guided practice through example problems, mock exams, and step-by-step problem solving. I believe students learn best by actively working through material rather than simply watching someone solve problems. By breaking down complex concepts into manageable steps, I help students develop both subject mastery and independent problem-solving skills.

My goal is not only to improve test scores and grades, but also to help students gain the confidence and study habits needed for long-term academic success. I strive to create a supportive, patient, and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and challenging themselves to grow.
