About

I am an experienced, patient and passionate professional tutor with proven success in raising my students’ grades, as well as boosting their confidence.

I have been doing private 1:1 tutoring (on and off, both paid and volunteer) for about 30 years. I have been a full time private tutor (my own business) for the last 5 years. Tutoring is not something I do on the side like some college students or retired teachers. It is my career and I am fully committed to my students and their success.

Unlike most tutors, I prepare structured lesson plans that are completely customized to each of my student’s level, goals and needs (materials and practice worksheets included). And I keep the sessions interactive so that students stay focused, engaged and motivated.

I absolutely LOVE working as a tutor! It's incredibly rewarding to watch my students learn, grow, gain confidence and achieve success. I am passionate about empowering students to succeed by tapping into their learning potential!

Christie is very experienced and knowledgeable. Her lessons are effective, engaging and interesting. My daughter is able to stay focus all the time and overcome her fear on Math. Christie makes it easy for her and at the same time pushing her through her limits. We will definitely continue to do tutoring with Christie. 😊

I am thrilled to find Christie on Tutors.com. She is a very experienced tutor, patient and encouraging. She knows my needs and spends time before each session to prepare for them. Her teaching is structured, sometimes she reminds me of what I need to prepare before each session. She also provides a lot of interesting materials for tutoring. I am lucky I have Christie as my tutor.

My daughters grade went from a C to an A in a matter of a few weeks! Christie let’s the student take the lead on how the tutoring session will be structured. She takes her own time to review the current material to create practice sheets to support what they are currently learning. My daughter tends to suffer test anxiety mostly with math. Tutoring with Christie has really boosted her confidence and it shows in her grade. We appreciate her dedication and talent! 8th grade algebra in Southern CA, virtual tutoring. I’m sure she’d benefit any middle schooler out there!

Christie has been a great tutor for our daughter Alyssa. Alyssa was having trouble with math, which made her really nervous when test time came. We tried to help her out at home, but it just wasn’t helping. We found Christie and asked her to help Alyssa out, she quickly evaluated and came up with a lesson plan to help her out. Alyssa is more comfortable with math now and seems more confident when testing. Definitely would recommend Christie if you have a child who needs some help.

Frequently asked questions

First, I assess the student’s current level, strengths and areas for improvement.  I also ask what the student’s goals are (for ex, improve my math grade, learn to read, review last year’s math so I can be better prepared for next year’s math or expand my vocabulary in Spanish for my upcoming trip to Mexico).  Then I put together a tutoring plan that maps out what topics we will focus on, what materials we will use and a timeline, including how often we should meet and for how long.
I graduated high school valedictorian with a 4. 3 GPA.  I have an undergraduate degree from Georgetown Univ (where I graduated Summa Cum Laude) and an MBA from UCLA.  I have been doing private 1:1 tutoring (on and off, both paid and volunteer) for about 30 years.
I offer the first 1 hour session for 50% off so you can try out my tutoring services and make sure it's a good fit.

After that, I charge $40/hr.

I first fell in love with tutoring when I volunteered as a middle school math tutor for inner city kids in Washington DC.

I have tutored a wide variety of subjects, including all levels of math, Spanish and English as a Second Language.

And I have tutored a wide range of grades and ages, from kindergarten through college (and adults too).

I encourage you to speak to my references!

Decide what’s important to you in a teacher and ask them lots of questions in advance! Do one trial session to see if you understand how he/she explains things. Be sure you like the teacher and that you click together.

What are your goals for tutoring (what do you hope to accomplish)?

For the subject you are getting help with, what are you good at?  What specifically do you need help with?
