We would go over questions they have and depending on their understanding of the material we would go from there.

Ask them if they have experience tutoring the subject you are in and if you have any special requests let them know
What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?
They should try to identify what they need help with first. It may be difficult but ask yourself "do I know what to do next?" Or "do I understand why I did this step?"
