About
I love language and history. Therefore, I pursued my BA in English/History & Theology at a small, intimate college on Long Island. While a student at this college and for a year after graduating Magna Cum Laude, I had a wonderful opportunity to work with a diverse population of students writing papers as well as helping them prepare oral presentations.
Then too, working at Molloy College I worked with a wide range of the Hispanic population in the evening helping them become proficient in English. I never just "spouted" rules of grammar since for every "rule" I could give, I could cite the inconsistencies to that rule. I worked with them using recorders to enable them to hear proper pronunciation, rather than just looking at the written word.
After re-locating to South Florida I worked as an associate director as well as a tutor for all age groups at Score At The Top. In the capacity of an Associate Director, I worked with school administrators as well as parents helping to determine tutors best suited to work with students either one-on-one or in small groups if preparing for specialized or standardized Florida tests.
I have my BA in English and History with a minor in Theology and would love to work with students of all backgrounds, crossing a broad swathe of disciplines, if you are in college. With writing, whether you or in elementary, middle, high or college, I can offer you a winning formula of "cats rats and bats" and assure you, you will be able to write on any subject.

What is your typical process for working with a new student?
At our first session, I evaluate the needs of my student by working with them to learn their strentghs and weaknesses.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have my BA in English, history and theology and don't view tutoring as work. It's pure enjoyment because I see all my students exceed their goals and expectations. For example, here is a recent review by one of the parents of one of my students:
"I can’t say anything negative about Mrs. Ellen. She’s so amazing, patient, happy and so loving. Her voice is so calming. My daughter is in the 4th grade and in a gifted class and her grades were declining due to COVID. Mrs. Ellen stepped in and worked with my daughter and after only 5 lessons her grades are already improving but I saw that improvement after just the first lesson. I love how Mrs. Ellen emails assignments on a specific subject days before the session so her and my daughter can work on them. She asks questions to make sure the child is understanding exactly what is being taught. My daughter just loves Mrs. Ellen and always looking forward to that one on one time together. She’s definitely hands down the BEST!!"
I'm also blessed that I work with a majority of my students for multiple school years. I learn from them as do they from me!
How did you get started teaching?
I began working in vocational trade schools teaching front office, specifically medical terminology, A&P, front office procedures, medical coding and billing. Then, in 2013, I responded to an email seeking me out as a tutor. So, I've been tutoring since 2013 to the present. I tutor English reading, comprehension, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, phonics and writing in all grades from kindergarten through college.
I also tutor in American and European history, and social studies as well as medical billing and coding to help someone prepare for national coding exams to apply for and be accepted in physician offices.
