About

Hello, Im Jasen Babcock a masters graduate at EWU in applied mathematics. Im taking course work in Applied Mathematics. As well as teaching and tutoring multiple different courses in math.

As an EWU Teaching assistant, I have accomplished...

Developing lesson plans and training to teach and lead a classroom.

· Taught online courses to about 50 students in differential equations, at Eastern Washington University.

· Reviewed courses and evaluated lesson plans based on the book, Taking Action. Implementing effective mathematics teaching practices.

· Covered multiple sections of Finite Mathematics and inspired some students to continue their math journey by taking Linear algebra.

One of the best moments for me as a tutor is when my students start to understand and build confidence in their mathematics. My favorite moment was when a student was able to help their child with their math homework. They were both confident in how they explained it and proud of how far they have come.

was very patient with me when I was stuck and helped me through a few examples. Explained the concept in a few ways, until I understood it. Helped me pass my class!!!!

    Frequently asked questions

    Establish what they want to get out of this;
Do they want to learn a class?
Do they want to learn this math for a future career?
What do they find interesting outside of math?

After getting to know what the student wants, I will put together evaluations to see which areas they are struggling in. I can then personalize lesson plans.

I find most often students who struggle with math will develop low confidence. This extends to the areas they are doing correctly and new concepts they are trying to learn. To address this, time will be spent on reestablishing the foundations of mathematics and building up from a strong base. I prefer 1-1 tutoring sessions to accomplish this because it is fast and effective at building confidence in your math abilities.

    My prices are the following:
$35/hr for online tutoring sessions (via ms teams, zoom, discord, etc... )
    $45/hr for in-person tutoring
I am willing to tutor small groups if they are learning the same material and am open to talking about how pricing would work.

You may contact me to discuss price options or just try to talk about an extended session for the first meeting at no extra cost.

In 2016 I applied for a math tutoring position at EWU, where I tutor any college-level math course on a drop-in basis. Tutoring has made me very knowledgeable in many subjects and given me experience in explaining concepts in multiple ways.

Hired as a homeschool teacher for middle school mathematics.
Prepared students for exams and tests such as; GED, GRE, College exams.
    College-level mathematics in various subjects.
Math in College level majors, such as Electrical
Engineering, Pharmacokinetics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Nursing.

Most recently, I inspired a student to take on Linear Algebra because of its many applications. He became very interested in the types of applications it can solve and how it aligned with his interests in population dynamics.

Try and evaluate how comfortable the teacher is with the subject. They cant be effective when the content is too close to the level they are learning. However, content knowledge is not the only thing that goes into teaching. Ultimately, you should feel like you are learning something new and feeling better about your math skills.

What motivates them to do tutoring? What type of relationship do you have with math, good or bad? Have you ever used math in your daily life?

As a teacher I want to know what motivates you and what you think of math. This can be discussed within our sessions.
