Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I like to start with map scores to get an idea of student strengths and weaknesses. This helps me develop a strategy for aiding the student.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a masters in education and 7 years teaching experience in secondary education. I have been tutoring since my sophomore year in college.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I only work with motivated students who are willing to put the work in. If I see a lack of motivation I will be impatient and leave the student. Pricing depends on the situation but for my qualifications and experience I am very reasonable.
How did you get started teaching?
I got started in education sophomore in college. I worked in the writing center, a place to help students edit papers. Often there was a line out the door for my services because of my attention to detail and patience. Several English learners made it a habit to come by and visit me before essays were due. I have since gone to graduate school and student math education. The impetus for all of this is the helping people. I have gifts of patience and creativity which benign affect my teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all sorts of students. Gifted, struggling, ELL, IEP, in my 7 years in the classroom I have encountered all types of learners.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I will work hard and expect you to do the same. Math is a language, I will be there to translate that language into something you are familiar with.
