About
Being a teacher is in my genes! My mother was a teacher and my grandmother was a teacher. I have over 25 years of experience in the field of education in positions which include: elementary school teacher, mentor teacher, teacher certification field supervisor, K-12 reading specialist/education consultant, principal intern, assistant principal, college instructor, youth education program manager, and K-20 virtual teacher.
I enjoy enabling students to succeed academically - especially those who have not responded well to traditional methods in school. Whether there are learning differences, confidence issues, or emotional blocks, I will design my lessons to meet the individual needs of students. Nothing makes me happier than to help students who are behind to "be on grade level" or to hear parents comment about how much their student's confidence has increased, along with his or her skills.
My effectiveness comes from:
-Traveling to New Zealand, a country with a 99% literacy rate, and implementing the strategies I learned with a similar success rate.
-Working with a comprehension expert and utilizing evidence-based methods that increase students' understanding of text.
-Years of experience teaching reading, math, and writing, and the ability to adapt and intuit what each student needs in the moment to achieve at the highest level of learning.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
First, I talk to the student (or parent/guardian for younger students) about what he/she/they want and need from tutoring. We will discuss best learning styles and approaches, and where the student needs to begin. I will ask for feedback along the way, in order to ensure we are working together in the best way possible, and are getting the wanted results.
