About

Experienced, retired, and credentialed teacher with 18 years experience. Of these years, I taught middle school math, up through Algebra 1, for 15 years. I have a Multiple Subject credential with Single Subject Supplemental credentials in Math, Science, and English.

I love teaching! Though I enjoy teaching all subjects, I discovered early on that I enjoyed teaching math the most. I can't tell you how many students I've had who began their school year with comments like, "I can't do math". I find joy in showing them that they can succeed! I am not the type of teacher who shows a student one way to solve a problem. I like to demonstrate multiple methods so that students can pick those that make the most sense to them.

    Frequently asked questions

We have a choice, we can work with the material assigned by their teachers (homework help or test prep), or we can assess for prior understanding and spend some of our time building on their foundations. The first is easiest, the second most effective.

I am a retired, credentialed teacher with 18 years experience. My first two years teaching were in a 6th grade self-contained (all subjects) classroom. The next year I taught 6th grade core (Language Arts and Social Studies). The next 15 years I taught 7th and 8th grade math up through Algebra 1.

For online assistance with homework and test prep - $15 per hour with a 60 minute minimum. If a student/parent requested additional help, such as prior concept testing, curriculum planning, etc, the hourly rate would need to be negotiated based upon needs.

In college I worked part-time for the YMCA in after school programs, day camp, and residence camps. This led me to a degree and career change. I continued working for the YMCA as a Program Director after college for 5 years. I then moved on to corporate work, but continued doing volunteer work for the YMCA and other organizations. In my early forties, I finally decided that I needed to return to working in a career that I enjoyed. I returned to school and pursued my teaching credential. I taught until I recently retired, having finally found a career that I loved.

I began teaching in an affluent area, but spent most of my teaching career in a Title 1 school. I have taught very gifted students through students who were several years below grade level, students who loved math to those who were convinced that they could not "do" math. I have taught emotionally disturbed, bipolar, transgender, ELL, and "regular" population students. I feel that I have taught many of the types of people the public school system has within it. In the end, they were all just people who needed to learn.
