Ellie Math
About
I have always had a passion for math since the third grade. Even in elementary school I would help my fellow classmates understand it. I will and always have done my best to help students get it. I have tutored a girl in middle school for algebra in the past year and helped her feel confident in her skills. I constantly help my siblings with their math, too. Since the sixth grade, I have had math classes two years advanced and received A's in all of them. As a junior in high school (senior this upcoming school year), I took AP Calculus one (which is the same level as a college freshman). But, I would say that being advanced doesn't matter as long as I am good at teaching the concepts for them to understand and not me, which I can certainly do!
The most rewarding part of tutoring is when the student uses a concept I taught them a week or two ago in order to solve a problem, showing they truly understand. I also enjoy giving students little hints to figure out a problem so that they can attempt to struggle through it themselves, then seeing that lightbulb go on in my students and watch their heads turn over the problem.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The most important part is that the student has a math book that they use in class. I also figure out what it is the student wants to achieve like getting an A in the class or do well in the math portion of the SAT or test better in general. It would also be helpful to know if they are a visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learner.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have tutored a middle school student in Algebra for the school year and constantly assist my siblings in math.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
Typically $15-20 an hour, it depends on how many sessions their are in a week.
How did you get started teaching?
I do school soccer in the fall and track in the spring. My soccer coach knew I was in advanced math and admired my character, so one day he asked me if I would be willing to tudor his daughter in math. I thought about it and said yes. Ever since then, I have enjoyed every bit of tutoring.
What types of students have you worked with?
Mostly middle school students, occasionally elementary students. I have also helped math classmates in geometry, algebra 2 and pre-calculus.
