About
I am a native English-speaking teacher and a permanent resident of Hong Kong from the USA. I have over 18 years of teaching ESL experience in Asia and have taught all ages in all areas of English studies.
I've taught a variety of students from around the world from 6 months old to 60 years old. I've worked with class sizes from 1-on-1 to 35 students in person as well as online. Materials used have been everything from phonics, music, drama, cultural and business English to oral, grammar, listening and written skills using the TOEIC, TESOL and IELTS standards. I am TESOL certified.
Teaching is a passion for me largely due to the reward of getting to watch the students grow and transform from my teaching while opening up many opportunities for their futures.
I look forward to helping you meet your goals to improve your own English skills, and I hope to see you online soon.
Thank you for your consideration.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I start off with a trial lesson to assess the student's needs and current level. After evaluating them I will give a lesson rundown with a plan to help them and find out when they would like to get started.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have over 18 years of teaching ESL experience in Asian countries with students from around the world. I have taught face-to-face and online. I am certified in TESOL and taught IELTS at the university level in China, after which I was appointed as an IELTS examiner for the same university. I have also taught based on TOEIC and TOEFL testing standards.

How did you get started teaching?
I started out teaching in the Philippines in a Korean English Center after getting married in the tropical country. After 3 years teaching Korean, Japanese and French students, the environement became very hostile and dangerous. So, I moved to Wuhan, China where I taught in a kindergarten for a few months, a language center for business and university students for 1 year and a university as an IELTS professor and examiner for my final year there. I eventually found my way down to Hong Kong where I taught all ages all kinds of English face-to-face and online for 13 years. Class sizes have varied from one-on-one to over 30 per class.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with all kinds of students from many countries around the world including Brazil, China, Korea, Japan, Germany, Russia, Spain, France, Peru, Mexico, etc. I have taught playgroup classes to 6-month olds up to 60-year olds in every area of English both in person and online.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I am most fond of any time I see a student progress specifically from something I've taught them. For example, I've been teaching a couple of 1st grade Taiwanese twins for about 2 months who knew almost no English when we started. Now they have started making simple sentences on their own to express their thoughts with the vocabulary they've learned in my classes. I am very proud of their progress. I designed all of my own PPTs for this class, so I've put in a lot of work to help them be successful.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Speaking is key! Be prepared to speak to improve your English skills and don't be afraid of making mistakes. That's what the teacher is there for, to help you fix the mistakes and improve on what you already know. Native speakers of every language make mistakes as well, so practice as much as you can when you have opportunities while being mindful of what you are saying and how you are saying it. Never give up and pursue your goals with determination until you reach success.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
It's good for the teacher to know what the student wants and needs, but the student should also have reasonable expectations. For example, it may not be reasonable to expect an increase in TOEFL score from a 2 to a 4 in just 2 weeks. On the other hand, it's always a good idea to be somewhat detailed about what you desire from the course in order to have something measurable to work for.
