I am a writer and artist who is incredibly passionate about helping others learn and grow. I obtained my BFA from PNCA Willamette in 2025 and majored in Animated Arts. Comics and Anime have played a big role in my life, and spending time approaching these subjects from a scholastic sense has been very fulfilling. I primarily tutor writing (essays, creative writing), but can also help with long term-project planning, as well as some science and math topics. I believe academics don't have to always feel impersonal or cumbersome, and want to help students connect to their creative potential. Whether this is through a long term creative proje

I am an ambitious, young lady who aspires to help young children learn and succeed in school and accomplish their goals. I am able to work well with neurodivergent students because I am neurodivergent myself. I want to help neurodivergent students and students with other special needs recognize that they have just as much potential as neurotypical students or students in the general education population. I want them to feel strong, confident, and capable and I want to advocate for their needs to be met and their support to be implemented. I am studying to be a teacher and have completed many courses towards my Bachelors Degree. I have complet

How much do English tutors charge near me?

English tutors charge $25 to $80 per hour on average, depending on their experience, education level, location, and availability. Expect to pay $15 to $40 per hour when hiring a high school aged English tutor and $30 to $100 per hour for a certified English teacher with a degree.

What do private English tutors do?

English tutors help students with reading, writing, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, phonics, and speaking skills. English tutors assist students by reviewing and critiquing essays, increasing their reading comprehension, or improving their writing skills. English tutors also work with students in English as a Second Language (ESL) programs.

What do ESL tutors do?

ESL (English as a Second Language) tutors help students who speak different primary languages learn formal English speaking, writing, grammar, and vocabulary. ESL teachers overcome language barriers to help students communicate clearly in English.

How to find an English tutor in my area?

Start by searching our list of private ESL, reading, and writing tutors. Then follow these tips:

  • Contact and consult with at least three tutors before hiring.
  • Read their reviews, ask for references, and verify their education.
  • Discuss where the lessons will take place, the cost, and cancellation policies.
  • Ask what payment methods are accepted and when payment is due.
  • Ask about discounts for booking a package of lessons.
  • Hire the tutor on a trail basis to make sure they are a good fit.

Mary Jo is exactly what my child needs. She is able to meet him just where he is (which changes day to day), motivates him to learn and grow, provides him with so many different ways of learning and different activities to keep him engaged. Her energy is amazing and she is obviously doing this because she cares about children and is excited herself to see them learn and improve. We are so lucky to have her helping our son.

My situation was unique. I had serious epileptic seizures during high school resulting in multiple brain surgeries and a long, challenging recovery. Matt entered my life during this time; I still had assignments to complete before graduation and an impending SAT exam, so I met with Matt twice a week and learned the essential concepts of writing and reading comprehension. While math was my strong suit, Matt helped me identify some earlier math concepts that needed refreshing. My initial SAT score prior to my relationship with Matt was 1260, but, after tutoring, I received a 1510 and was accepted by my school of choice for pre-med studies. I continue to meet with Matt two or three times per week during my undergraduate studies for more advanced writing strategies. I cannot imagine a better academic mentor than I have found with Matt.

Tae has helped me with my chemistry course so much this semester. As soon as I got help from Tae I became so much more confident learning difficult topics in chemistry. Working with him was super effective and a huge help towards understanding chemistry and overall becoming a better student. I couldn’t have done it without him! I will definitely be working with him in the future. 10/10
