What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The typical process looks like this
1. Get to know each other
2. Find out where the student is struggling and where they want to be
3. Set goals and create a system that will work to ensure these goals are met
4. Talk about what the student is interested in and explore avenues of engagment in their learning journey
5. Relax and enjoy the learning process
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.A in History and M.A. in Education with certifications through Washington State to teach English and History.
I have six years of experience in public schools and 3 years of tutoring experience.
I take great pleasure and care in studying new educational techniques. By reading the current literature on best educational practices and trying new systems, I ensure the very best knowledge transfer between both student and mentor.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always enjoyed history and how ideas transfer between people. Education was the logical choice and I have enjoyed working with students since before the day I started student teaching.
What types of students have you worked with?
Students from grade 6 through 12 (and a few beyond!). From blossoming to advanced, I have worked with students of all kinds of backgrounds and from around the world.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Find someone who communicates on your level and make sure they challenge you.

Where do you want to be? How much effort are you willing to put in to reach that goal?
