Victoria R. says, "Jeff was very knowledgeable and professional. He taught my son at his level and pace without pushing too much information to fast. Jeff also would send a video and a few practice problems in between sessions which was very helpful. I also appreciated that Jeff would fill me in after each session on what they were working on and the progress. My son really enjoyed working with Jeff and I would definitely recommend him ." I was formally trained as a writing consultant and writing tutor at University of Washington. During my tenure as a UW tutor, I studied several tutoring frameworks and theories. Over the 4+ years, I took what I felt were the best-of-the-best and implemented them into my daily tutoring practices. In my approach to tutoring, I place a strong emphasis on building foundational skills in academic reading and writing, guiding students to develop critical thinking, and helping them integrate personal analysis and unique prose into their work. My situation was unique. I had serious epileptic seizures during high school resulting in multiple brain surgeries and a long, challenging recovery. Matt entered my life during this time; I still had assignments to complete before graduation and an impending SAT exam, so I met with Matt twice a week and learned the essential concepts of writing and reading comprehension. While math was my strong suit, Matt helped me identify some earlier math concepts that needed refreshing. My initial SAT score prior to my relationship with Matt was 1260, but, after tutoring, I received a 1510 and was accepted by my school of choice for pre-med studies. I continue to meet with Matt two or three times per week during my undergraduate studies for more advanced writing strategies. I cannot imagine a better academic mentor than I have found with Matt.
