Students I have tutored in the past at my school have stuck with me for the whole academic year, and their grades have increased significantly. I encourage students to think methodically and apply several strategies to their learning process. I focus on teaching techniques and understanding the bigger picture, and applying that to their homework and classwork so they can be self-reliant in the future. In the process, I make sure to use empathy and have a deep understanding of the student's learning abilities to further benefit them.
At my school, tutoring others gives me volunteering hours as opposed to money; I emphasize that my services are more than just the money paid, as my true goal is to have my students succeed in school and display confidence in their classes. Academic success is not an innate talent, as anyone can achieve it, but its cultivation depends on the curiosity, understanding, and strategies students may use. My objective is to help my students add these core concepts to their tool belt and tackle their classes with full-force!

The first session is a complete get-to-know-you session, where I learn about my students' general lives. I make sure to ask for the students' preferred pronouns and whether they have any learning disabilities as to build a comfortable environment for them. I make sure to ask about their general lives, such as their hobbies, passions, sports, and favorite classes, and why they like those aspects of their lives. I ask about what teachers inspire them, and how those teachers achieve that level of understanding. I also ask them what their least favorite subjects in school are, and why they dislike them/ have consistent struggles in those classes. With these notes, I can better help the student and become friends with them!
I am currently a high school sophomore/rising junior, and I have been tutoring freshmen at my high school for a year.
I will price my sessions based on how many subject areas the student needs help with. I will most likely never charge above $30, and never under $10. I can negotiate pricing methods with my clients anytime!
At my high school with the Peer Tutoring program.
I have tutored both boys and girls who are freshmen in high school. I have volunteered at places that deal with all ages, such as helping with VMFA Family Days, and helping with the 1708 Gallery InLight event.
During the COVID-19 outbreak, I realize how important it is to find happiness in the little things. Just taking my dog out for walks and going on runs make my day, and talking to my friends through FaceTime also brightens my day exponentially. These little things tend to make life much more enjoyable.
A student should find a teacher who seems to really cater to their needs, and someone who is willing to pace themselves to the student. It is important to benefit the student as much as possible rather than focusing on their own personal gain.
Students should first reflect on their work, highlight their weak areas, and then find any commonalities between those areas. They must ask how their teacher may help them with those weak concepts. Even asking for help on homework and class work are viable options, as that may help students realize their strong and weak areas in the subject. It is a teacher's job to help their students, so a student should never be afraid to ask for help!
