K B. says, "Maria is an exceptional high school math tutor. We were lucky to slide into a mid year opening in her schedule and then continued to work with her through two more academic years, NCMath 2, 3 and 4 honors. She is a patient teacher who relates extremely well to teenage students. My son was not initially comfortable asking for or getting help, but after just a couple of meetings with Maria he was glad for the extra assistance and his grades and confidence both went up." Hi, my name is Sylvia, and I love working with students! Fun fact: I can recite every line of the movie The Princess Bride. Tutoring is most rewarding when a new concept “clicks” with a student - their excitement is contagious, and it’s a privilege to be able to help them reach that point! On a more personal level, I am a friendly, outdoorsy, athletic, and talkative type of person! I partner with students on a one-on-one basis in STEM subjects through SoFlo Tutors, my tutoring agency. I studied Economics at the University of St. Andrews and have been tutoring for 2 years. At SoFlo, we work to raise grades, strengthen understanding, and incre

I have had experience tutoring math as a senior in highschool. Now that I have earned my degree in Biomedical Engineering, I believe I can be an even greater math tutor. I graduated cum laude, and engineering is my pation. I plan to go to dental school, so my premed track can help me tutor more than just math if students need any help with biology or chemistry. I have also volunteered in many research laboratories focusing mainly on cancer research, so I have a lot of experience with the experimental process. I loved helping students boost their grades when I tutored math in high school, and I am excited for the opportunity to tutor again. I ...

Hi! I am so excited to work with you! I have a Bachelor of Science in Economics, and experience working with young kids aged 7-14. As the daughter of two professors, I have garnered a joy for teaching others and helping them learn. From college, I remained familiar with mathematics concepts, as well as the ability to write in efficient ways. From working with children I have learned patience and persistence. In addition I grew up studying grammar and Latin at my Classical focused school, which has helped me to have an enhanced vocabulary (through knowledge of derivatives), and ability to convey ideas well through writing. I will help your c

Reviews for Richmond college algebra tutors

Recent success stories from people in the Richmond area.
Jeff L. T.
Maria has been tutoring my son Aiden for several months in Pre-Calc. I've very pleased with her demeanor, inviting semi- Socratic style and thoughtful approach as she guides him through his lessons. She carefully identifies his strengths and weaknesses then helps him transition into more critical thought and reflection working through the why's, how's, and relevance of each problem area in the overall scheme. He comes to his own solutions (most of the time--lol!) in ways that build on his strengths and strengthens his weaknesses in a fun way. With Maria its not just getting the right answers, its understanding the right questions. Aiden looks forward to his sessions each week and his grades reflect her impact. I see his confidence building in learning. Most importantly, Aiden is smiling again when it comes to math and looks forward to preparing for each week! Thanks Maria!

George was able to explain difficult material in an easy to understand way. His technical skills via Microsoft word and zoom also made it easier to follow along and understand material that he was teaching even though we were not face to face. He was also very professional and pleasant and I would highly recommend him as a tutor.
