About this tutor

Our brain training center in Leesburg serves individuals who are struggling to keep up in school, at work, or in life. Many of our clients are struggling students, although we serve children and adults of all ages. The way brain training works is amazing! Our clients work one-on-one with personal brain trainers, doing fun, challenging mental exercises that train the skills the brain uses to think and learn.

My wife and I are owners because we are still seeing the results of our childrens' training they took years ago!

Two of our three kids have benefitted from different programs that were targeted around their specific underlying cognitive weaknesses. We love that we see them succeeding in so many ways. We enjoy seeing other kids with IEP's now on the Honor Roll, kids in the autism spectrum able to stay calmer and understand how they can perform at a different level socially or bright kids with good grades get 10-15 points increase in their IQ/GIA!

We would love for you visit our center and take a look around, and even see a demonstration of what brain training is all about. Give us a call 571.465.2277 or email us with any questions at [email protected]

What is your typical process for working with a new student?

We initially do a cognitive skills and achievement test to determine the underlying cognitive weaknesses to learning. It takes about 1 hour and a day or two later, we meet for a consultation to go over how those scores compare to other people at the same age and how those skills relate in terms of years ahead or years behind in those skills.

There are supplemental tests that will be performed when training begins. This gives us very specific areas to strategize the training for each individual. We will do a mid term to review progress half way through the training.

At the end of training, we will do the entire battery of testing again to show parnets and the student where improvements have been made--an "apples to apples" comparison--in a graduation party!

One year after completing the brain training, we will do the entire battery again to show the retention rate of the training and to determine if more training is desired. (And we do this testing for free!)

What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

All of our trainers are certified according to rigorous standards, tested/verified, hours of required observation of other trainers and background checked, prior to assigning students to them. While trainers come from various backgrounds, are different ages, most of them have 4 year college or Master degrees.

Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.

Programs are based on what is needed--see our website for specifics. Every student has a different cognitive profile so the amount of hours invested varies. The best program for the student, the amount of hours and the exact price is discussed at the consultation after the results are measured. We have payment plans as low as $65 a month, subject to credit approval.

How did you get started teaching?

Six years ago, our oldest desperately needed such a significant level of care and understanding around her learning disabilities that even the best person in the IEP program (And there were great IEP educators!) could not cover.

I actually did some of the training with her at home and it was such a revelation to watch her not be able to do so many things that other kid's her age had mastered. It changed the way I parented her. And it caught her up in so many areas, academically and socially.

What types of students have you worked with?

We wqrk with children from 5 to senior adults. (Our most mature learner is 66 to date.) We address cognitive issues for ADD/ADHD, autism spectrum, dyslexia and traumatic brain injuries (usually sports related). We have had students increase their SAT scores by leaps and bounds, struggling students that are on the verge of givning up or have given up and very intellligent people get 10-15 points increase in their GIA/IQ. Some students have actually gained over 20 points!

Describe a recent event you are fond of.

We have a student with significant cognitive and reading issues beyond his dyslexia. His parents tried several reading programs, at great financial and emotional expense, to no measureable increase. Even after being in the IEP process from first grade -- he is on the Honor Roll at his middle school now thanks to our brain training!

What advice would you give a student looking to hire a tutor in your area of expertise?

If you need a tutor for a specific time due to extenuating circumstances or specific area of study, this is a great resource to find that for your child.

But f you are looking for something more or a distinct mental advantage -- in Leesburg!

At LearningRx, you’ll do fun, challenging exercises for your brain with the help of your own personal trainer.

To understand the impact of working with a personal brain trainer, physical fitness training provides a great analogy. Think about what it’s like to commit to working out daily at the gym with a personal trainer who customizes your workouts, holds you accountable, and encourages you beyond your comfort zone. Now compare that with the experience of purchasing a workout DVD with the good intentions of making time to work out when you feel like it. See the difference? That’s the difference a training relationship can make.

What questions should students think through before talking to tutors about their needs?

We can answer any questions for students and parents by phone, email or a sample training session by appointment.
