About
I have been tutoring for the past year with a company called NovaStar Prep but am looking to grow my clientele. I have a Bachlor's and Master's degree in Engineering from Villanova University and therefore am very comfortable with tutoring in mathematics. I am an energetic 25 year old starting out in the DC area and have a passion for math that can be seen in my teaching sessions.

I very much enjoy teaching students how to enjoy math. I especially like seeing how a student's confidence grows once I am done with my lessons. Math has always been my favorite subject and I am excited to help some students overcome their challenges with it!

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
My process includes a general introduction followed by an indepth discussion about what parts of their math assignment they find the most challenging. Then, we will get right into the issues with the processes they are trying to master. I always allow the student to teach me while I offer corrections if necessary. I like for the student to be in control in walking me through their thought process first before I offer my suggestions. It is important for the lesson to not entirely be a lecture from me.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I have a B.S. and M.S. in engineering from Villanova University and I currently tutor for a company called NovaStar Prep based in Northern Virginia. I have six weekly students currently.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
No.
How did you get started teaching?
I have always worked with kids (from highschool through college) and I wanted to earn an extra income to pay off some of my student debt. Tutoring allows me to work with students in a subject matter that I am passionate about.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with Middle School and High School Students.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
Recently, my student earned a 95 on his math exam after earning consistent B's and C's and he wrote me a note of how excited he was. It was very rewarding!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
I would honestly look for teachers who are passionate about what they do like I am. There are a lot of instructors who don't actually enjoy teaching.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
What their goals and expectations are for the tutor. Passing a course and earning an A are very different goals so it is important to be transparent with their own expectations.
