Eugene is best described as a transformational school teacher and leader. Throughout his career he has served this region's diverse public schools and communities in a variety of leadership capacities. As a middle school math teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools, Eugene successfully partnered with students and families in providing a world-class mathematics education. His classroom successes gained national recognition after being documented on the front page of the Washington Post (1/23/1997) discussing Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMMS). His outstanding work with mathematics education continues today. He recently celebrated the highest 1-year gain on record for his 8th grade students at a Fairfax County Public Middle School, where his student scores rose 40 percentage points in math proficiency on the annual state mathematics assessment.
