Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I believe that building relationshipswith students is one of my strengths and the best way to get students to buy into learning. I learn about student interests inside and outside of school and use these things in lessons. I use interest surveys and questionnaires to get baseline data.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
In 2018, I earned my bachelor of science in early childhood education and exceptional needs. Since 2019, I have been a special education teacher in the primary grades in the general education setting. I currently am working on my master of special education.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
No.
How did you get started teaching?
I have a passion for building relationships with students and helping them grow and reach their goals. I believe all students have the capacity and ability to learn when given appropriate scaffolding.
What types of students have you worked with?
I have worked with a wide range of elementary students. I have experience with students reading and working beyond their grade level as well as students with disabilities including autism, specific learning disabilities, and ADHD.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
This year, teaching virtually and concurrently, was challenging for students and teachers. Even in this adversity, I was able to get to know students individually and help several students who previously could not identify letters, read by the end of the year.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
As a teacher, I am looking to meet a student where they are at. I believe all students (and teachers!) have strengths and needs. I want us to, together, use the student's strengths to work on these needs. I believe this strength based, growth mindset is the foundation of a student-tutor relationship.
