Tias's Math And Science Help
About
As a student studying biomedical engineering at the University of Utah, my knowledge and understanding of math and science are fresh -- constantly challenged and deepened. I know how to lead, instruct, and work with kids and teenagers. I was a team captain on my high school and club swim teams for 2 years before graduating and currently work as a swim coach for kids ages 7-18. I love working with students and seeing concepts click into place as understanding sparks to life in their eyes.
I first noticed my love for tutoring when I was in high school, helping my classmates, even inviting them to my house to help them when we ran out of time at school. On the swim team, I often helped my teammates better understand their homework. I loved empowering them and felt fulfilled when helping them gain confidence in their academic and intellectual ability and deepen their understanding of the world around them through the lens of math and science.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
I work best when I already know some basics of the student's general interests, feelings toward the subject matter, and academic goals. I'll use some time in our first tutoring session to discuss these. Alternatively, we could discuss them over email beforehand.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I'm currently a senior at the University of Utah, studying biomedical engineering.
Do you have a standard pricing system for your lessons? If so, please share the details here.
I'm starting at $20/hr; however, prices are negotiable.
What types of students have you worked with?
I've taught math and science mainly to high school-aged students; however, I also work regularly with students ages 7-18 in athletics.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
I struggled quite a bit academically in the Fall of 2020, but with hard work, managed to get a 4.0 in the Spring of 2021. Improving in such a way was very satisfying.
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
Look for someone who can understand complicated concepts, then explain them in easy-to-understand ways.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
First, students should do their best to determine what they do and do not understand. Knowing this streamlines and simplifies the process of teaching and learning significantly.
