About
The Lone Star Tutor was born out of the need to serve elementary students that struggle so they can enter middle school on grade level. The struggling student doesn't want to raise their hand for help because they are afraid to ask for help or they do not know what they need help with. At parent-teacher conferences tears stream down the faces of students. Parents are frustrated because they have tried any and everything that they can think of. Their child stays after school for tutoring and they are still behind
The Lone Star Tutor personalizes instruction based on your child's individual needs. One-on-one tutoring allows your child to learn at his or her own pace. The confidence alone that students gain with The Lone Star Tutor is amazing! All sessions are done in comfort and privacy of your own home via Zoom. No need to travel to a tutoring center or tidy up your home for a session!
The Lone Star Tutor is passionate about helping each struggling student. We understand the overwhelming feeling your child feels and how much of an emotional toll this has on you as their parent(s). Odds are your child is struggling with skills they did not grasp years ago. We will help your child build the foundation skills necessary for success.

Frequently asked questions
What is your typical process for working with a new student?
The Lone Star Tutoring method begins the moment you inquire about our services. Our three step method of getting students from struggling reader/mathematican to being a confident active learner happens in three phases.
Our first phase is called "catch" this begins with our initial consultation; where you tell us all about your child & discuss the problems that you are noticing with your child and I create a treatment plan specific to your concerns. In our "catch" phase determine your child's specific needs and we begin filling in those gaps.
Our next phase is called "keep" this is when students gain mastery of all the concepts they learned during the "catch" phase. Our goal is mastery! We will not move on until your child has demonstrated mastery of every skill.
Our final phase is called "take" here is where we take those mastered skills & show them how to utilize what they've learned and apply it to learning in the classroom.
Our mission is to ensure that every tutee receives evidence based tutoring to become confident active learners in the classroom.
What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I am currently a certified teacher in the state if Texas. I’ve been a teacher in the classroom for the past 10 years.
How did you get started teaching?
I started teaching because everyone said that I would be good at it, and you know what they were right! Not only am I an amazing teacher, but I now know that I've been called to shape the minds of young people.
Though I'm an amazing classroom teacher, I have a greater desire to serve students that require & need extra support that the classroom isn't able to provide.
Having been a classroom teacher for 7 years & being an intervention teacher for 2 years I saw a need for qualified tutors that understood the demands of what kids are required to learn & exactly how they are being taught.
So, I started the Lone Star Tutor. I am dedicated to teach struggling readers in grades K-3 how to read & become confident active learners.
What types of students have you worked with?
I work with students that have dyslexia, IEPs, students that have ADHD, and students that are on the higher end of the Autism spectrum.
Describe a recent event you are fond of.
One of my fondest memories was working with a student that has dyslexia. When we started working together he was making 40s on his report card. 12 sessions later he showed me his report card and he was passing. It brought tears of joy to my eyes to see the joy and confidence that he now has!
What advice would you give a student looking to hire a teacher in your area of expertise?
1. Have a consultation to find out how the tutor plans to get your child from point A to point B.
2. Determine the desired result(s) you want for your child
3. Determine if it's going to be a good partnership. Does their process align up with the goals you have for your child?
4. Before the process check credentials.
